Scepticism Confirmed

Another Wiki I looked at which was a library wiki, began with "Update! Because of vandalism problems, e-mail confirmation is now required". There are always good ideas and there are always a select few who are willing to ruin a good idea. There are ways around things, but this alert comfirms my scepticism as far as how free access can have quite negative implications.

Wikis

I always enter learning with curiousity, enthusiasm and an open mind. Wikis sounds great and would definatley have many handy applications and is a great tool. But there's this niggling part of me that doesn't understand the idea "A wiki invites all users to edit any page or to create new pages within the wiki Web site, using only a plain-vanilla Web browser without any extra add-ons." How would anyone know what truth which lay in a piece of information? It reminds me of the Chinese whispers, where one peice of information is told to a person, and as the info is passed on it gets misconstrued and, in the end, is quite different from the original "truth". Something about that and Wikis and the whole Internet thing leaves me feeling somewhat tentative. Not completely, just somewhat...

Web Library 2.0

It's so great to read about many of these technology issues that are undoubtedly impacting and challencing the new definition of a "Library" and what services should we be expected to provide. A comment about how libraries are generally poorly equipped and under staffed is so true. Certainly in our corner of Australia our library holds a very low priority in funding and enthusiasm from our Council. I'll be quick to clarify that it's not the staff who are not enthusiastic, it's the "higher up" decision makers who are letting us down - and therefore providing the community with a slightly second rate access to library services. How can we possibly train our library users toward a more "technological" Library when we are under staffed? Its great to have access - never-the-less - to open discussions about these issues. Communication is one of the keys to progress. Action made upon these communications is also a key. But "all talk" and no action - made on the internet, will in the end not get us far. We need acknowledgemnet from our Councils and governments that Libraries should become seen as a high priority in education of all ages.

Technorati & Delicious Learning

It is interesting to look at the way technology has moved so fast and to discover that behind the scenes there are decision makers who do decide the "hows" and "wherefores" of this whole system. Delicious and Technorati and indeed just different ways to search and track. I found an interesting "most favourite" Blog and had a look. It does definately help me to observe what others find interesting and to then explore a bit that way. I do otherwise find myself "wondering where to go" and "what to look at" when exploring. To set some in your tags favourites is great.

Rollyo

I do really like the idea of Rollyo. Fantastic for research, study or just personal interests like hobbies or curiosities we all have. A very handy and usable resource.

Politics and Election

Just a quick note to ask a question! Why not have it mandatory that governments voted in should have a balance of women and men in their party? Why not have a balanced government? And why don't ministers actually hold specific degrees for the area in which they are representing? It makes fair good sense to me. It was just a thought...

Online Image Generators

I have looked at various image generators and attempted post one on my blog. I'm not sure whether I've been successful! But sometimes learning comes with trial and error, and that's OK. Trying and clicking and pressing buttons is what this is all about!? Anyway, I have posted a Generator below for all the Mum's out there for when the Tooth Fairy is knocking on your door.

News for Food or Distraction?

I have explored News Feeders and Bloglines. The possibilites are endless. I have linked myself to various topics, which in time, will either prove to be an added interest and curiousity in my life, OR, may just fall by the wayside, as I live and address "real life" daily stuff as opposed to the Virtual Reality of Internet usage.

Reflecting

I am enjoying exploring Flicka. So many wonderful photos, as well as acknowledging all the clever people who took these photos. There is a reason why I have posted a couple of "nature" photos. I find that while I am enjoying the benefits of learning more about "Information Technology"- working in amongst computers, following steps, deciphering instructions, pressing buttons and glaring at a screen, I crave the softness and colour of nature and the beauty it can show us.

Beautiful Double Rainbow

Recently I was driving along the highway in Western Victoria with a friend. I turned around and glimpsed an amazing huge double rainbow much like the one in this photo on my blog. We promptly stoppped the car and I took a photo of my friend with hers arms outstretched. As it turned out, when I got the photo back it looked as though each rainbow was coming out of each of the palms of her hand. A beautiful happy moment in life!

Plodding Along as opposed to Blogging Along!

I am beginning to weave my way through and around this learning tool. Not sure whether to turn left or right there, click here or dash there! The key is time - something I do not have a lot of, however my best intentions lie within my heart. But I'm not sure that I will be able to bring it all to my highest fruition. I'll be in touch again soon.

My Week 2 Learning done in Week 7!

I have been awfully busy with my work load and have only just embarked on my blogging learning journey now - 7 weeks in. Just as a side thing - I really find the word BLOG a very wierd and unattractive word! Couldn't "someone" have designed a more "friendly" word than BLOG and BLOGGING? Well that's my shared thought for the day.
